In 2017, Fred Jahn and Matthias Jahn’s galleries merged to form Galerie Jahn und Jahn. Matthias Jahn specializes in young contemporary painting, sculpture and site-specific works whereas Galerie Fred Jahn (founded in 1978) continues to focus on drawings and other works on paper by internationally renowned postwar artists such as Karel Appel, Georg Baselitz, Per Kirkeby, Imi Knoebel and Gerhard Richter.
The exhibition Computer und Papier explores the interaction between digital media and the traditional medium of paper. Rather than focusing on technical advancements, the show reflects on how working with an analog art form has been inspired by technology and vice versa. To what extent has the economy of digitalization entered artistic practice and in what way do works on paper benefit from digital tools? The immediate access to both allows various approaches to this complex topic, as the works in the show reveal.
