Within the framework of the Foundation Louis Vuitton “Hors-les-murs” program, the Espace Louis Vuitton München is exhibiting three films by Indian artist Amar Kanwar: Henningsvaer (2006), A Love Story (2010) and Letter 5 (2017). Representative of Kanwar’s oeuvre, these works operate at the interface between art, documentation and activism. They use complex contemporary narratives to connect intimate spheres of existence to larger socio-political processes. Disturbing and contemplative poetic documentaries, they invite the viewer to a potent personal experience which might incite new generations of artists, as per Kanwar’s aspiration, to rethink the social consequences of their works.
The Espace Louis Vuitton München is also pleased to present the pop-up show COMING OF AGE, a group exhibition curated by Virgil Abloh. Following its first edition at Little Big Man Gallery in Los Angeles, an entirely new edition has been designed specifically for Munich. It centers on male youth and features an international line up of both established and emerging talent. The featured photographers offer a diverse and complex look at boyhood that traverses many realms including class, social economics, subcultures, isolation and camaraderie, and focuses on those formative years of youth and optimism.
